Is it illegal for an 18yr old girl to date a 16yr old guy?

Is it illegal for an 18yr old girl to date a guy just recently turned 16 if there is no sex? They have never met (he lives out of state) and one of his parents does not approve (pretty much hates her). Can she be facing jail anyway?

Depends on the laws in the state where he lives (since he’s the minor). Since there’s no physical contact and assuming she’s not an authority figure then no, it shouldn’t be an issue. If they have anything that could be construed as cybersex however that would be soliciting a minor, so she has to be careful.

Well honestly why would an 18 year old girl want to date a 16 year old guy that she has never met??
    It makes no sense.
Nope it is not illegal though until they have sex.
Then it is illegal, depending on what country you are in.

But either way it is kinda of sick.
16 year old boys are little kids.
Guys do not even get to a point worth time until about 23.

    dating can lead to sex.
I would say that the one parent does not approve of the realationship for a few reasons. She may want him to date someone his age (minor) and someone that lives within the same zip code.
It would have to be difficult to date someone that they have never meet of that lives in another state.
It is not illegal but if sex is involved then yes! it is illegal.

My advice would be for the girl to date a guy that is her age or older. I say this from experience. I dated a guy younger than myself and it was not a good relationship. Also I know what it is like to date someone out of state it is very hard.
I don’t want to sound insensitive but I have experience very close to your situation and I ended up hurt.

That depends on the state. Some states have a four-year law (such as Colorado), and other states will allow dating/marriage if the parents give approval.

You need to either A) hop down to the local police station and ask a cop what the law is in your area or B) save up some funds and ask a lawyer.

anything having to do with crossing state lines and a minor is never a good idea.

I’m not sure I would support this relationship.

Yes, his parents could be in the right to phone the police and file a complaint. Anyone crossing state lines to meet a minor (sex doesn’t have to be the main intent, but since it’s possible, and all you need is the accusation) is always inclined to arrest first, ask questions later.

I don’t know if it’s illegal or not, but I sure wouldn’t risk my record on it.
