Would it be weird for a black girl to date an asian guy?

Because my guy friend/crush asked me out, he’s asian and I’m black, but I feel that it might be weird if we did. He’s not full asian his mom is but his dad is white/mexican mix, but still. I told my friends about it and now they are calling me asian-lover and saying I have yellow fever, but really I just like him a lot and we have been friends since like 7th grade( we are freshmen in high school now). I do want to date him, but I’d be conscious of what people think. I don’t think there has ever been an asian guy/black girl couple at my school, there’s a two black guy/asian girl, but never the other way. So seeing that would be new to people plus word spreads around my school fast.
Also yes I know I’m young, so i don’t need people lecturing me on staying in school and to stop worrying about relationships, I already make good grades(:

my sister is black and her boyfriend (since highschool) is asian (Cambodian)!!!
they are SO CUTE TOGETHER.
